Wells Fargo agreed to pay $2.09 billion to settle charges by the Justice Department that it knowingly sold residential-mortgage loans to investors containing false income information. The crisis-era loans, tens of thousands of which defaulted, “did not meet the quality that Wells Fargo represented,” the DOJ said. The bank has faced multiple scandals over sales practices, including one involving opening millions of fake accounts that resulted in Federal Reserve sanctions.
The Trump administration eased restrictions around short-term health plans. The new rule allows cheaper, less comprehensive policies to be carried for as long as 36 months — up from the current 90-day cap. People will be able to sign up for the plans from October. The offerings are expected to undercut the Affordable Care Act, which mandated comprehensive coverage and other protections, by drawing away healthier people needed to offset costs for the sick and elderly.

Chipotle’s stock had climbed 61% this year after recovering from several past reports of illness tied to its stores.
